What is a Birth Network?
Birth Networks all over the world are promoting, supporting and
protecting normal birth.
Why Chattanooga Mama?
Chattanooga Mama came about as a way to bring families together with
professionals who offer services to expectant mothers, babies and
parents.
What is the mission of Chattanooga Mama?
Chattanooga Mama is a non-profit, local advocacy group dedicated to
educating expectant families and the community about choices in
childbirth and evidenced based, mother-friendly care as defined by the
Mother-Friendly childbirth Initiative. All members of the Chattanooga
Mama endorse the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI), created
by the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS).
What is Mother-Friendly care?
The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) was formed in
1996. It is made up of midwives, physicians, hospital associations,
public health workers, doulas, scientists, and many others. As a group
they meet to review scientific reports and make recommendations for
evidence-based obstetric practices. To qualify for CIMS designation, a
birth center, hospital, or home birth service must fulfill Ten Steps of
Mother-Friendly Care.
Who Can Join Chattanooga Mama?
Chattanooga Mama is not just for professionals who serve expecting
mothers or new mothers and families. Anyone wishing to participate in
creating a Mother-Friendly community, and thus ensuring Mother-
Friendly care for everyone, are encouraged to join with us.
If you are an expectant parent, or are thinking of being one, we hope
to serve as a resource for your search for accurate, evidence-based
information about birth and maternity care in our area. You are
welcome to become a supporting member to help advance our cause of
better birth for all women in the Chattanooga area!
If you are a local area birth professional, we hope you will join us in
endorsing the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative and become a
professional member of Chattanooga Mama. You will be connected to
other like-minded practitioners and have a way to connect with
parents in our community searching for “mother-friendly” care.
How do I join?
If you wish to join the Chattanooga Mama and believe in our mission
and that of CIMS, please complete the Membership Application and
submit it with a signed copy of the Mother-friendly childbirth
agreement and appropriate membership dues, which you will find on
